Specialties: Gorgeous oak trees, sunny skies, and a family-friendly atmosphere are just a part of what makes Oak Knoll Campground so very special. The campground is typically open from March 1 through the first Monday in December, and recommendations are strongly encouraged during peak season, particularly during summer and fall. Swimming at the park and using the boat launch is complimentary for those camping in the park. A full-service bathhouse is located at the campground for hot showers and a wash sink for any dishes. All campsites have in-ground grills for cooking and campfires, as well as a picnic table and post for a lantern. Acorn campground has 128 large campsites and is located on the shores of New Hogan Lake in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There are 70 campsites at Smith Mountain Lake State Park, including 20 cabins, 26 tent-only sites and 24 sites with standard electric hook-ups. The Smith Mountain Lake State Park features boat ramps, making it easy for you to get straight from your camping site to all the fun that awaits in the water. The campground has potable drinking water, accessible flush toilets, and coin-operated showers, and there is a dump station. There are also many unique local businesses nearby for things to do, such as golf, shopping, art galleries, dining and special events. Acorn has 128 campsites that can accommodate tents, trailers, RVs, and many of the sites have long, pull-through driveways that are suitable for larger vehicles but they don’t have hookups. The lake also offers over 500 miles of shoreline and countless opportunities for great fishing, kayaking, sailing, tubing, hiking and much more. With a Virginia State Park situated along Virginia's second largest lake, the entire family will enjoy pitching the tent or setting up the RV at Smith Mountain Lake. There are enough Wal-Mart and truck stop directories out there already. We are not actively seeking Wal-Marts, truckstops or other parking lots and will not be adding very many of these.
